Our training follows the BSAC program. There are different Grades through which the trainee progresses starting with the Ocean Diver course.

This consists of a series of 7 lectures and at least 5 pool sessions using the scuba equipment, giving the trainee the maximum amount of hands-on experience in a safe area. When the pool training and lectures have been completed and the instructor is satisfied that the trainee is ready they are then taken to shallow, sheltered sites in the open water for 5 open water dives. Then on completion of the Theory test they can become a qualified Ocean Diver. They are then able to dive without an instructor regularly with the other Club members.

The qualified Ocean Diver can then go on to train further. The next courses are similar in content.  Following the Ocean Diver qualification, the next course is for Sport Diver, followed by the Dive Leader course and then the Advanced Diver course. We believe all our members should try to attain Dive leader to dive in our local waters.

There are regional BSAC courses which club members are also encouraged to participate in – such as boat handling, Nitrox and chart work / position fixing.

Full information on BSAC training can be found on the BSAC website BSAC Website and click the Learning to Dive button.
